The device has a switch (19) separating or coupling charge packed memories, and an over-current disconnection (21) provided for opening the switch during an allowed over-current. An under voltage disconnection (24) opens the switch during minimum voltage of a lead-acid-battery (15). The over-current disconnection and/or the under voltage disconnection has threshold comparators with hysteresis such that thresholds are formed by given voltages. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a device for coupling two charge packed memories.
