SURFACE LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND BACK LIGHT UNIT HAVING THE SAME

A surface light source and a backlight unit having the same are provided to prevent deterioration of a sealing frit caused by plasma and high-energy ions within a discharge space by not exposing the sealing frit to the discharge space. A first substrate(211) and a second substrate(212) form an internal space in which a discharge gas is injected. A sealing frit is interposed between edges of the first and second substrates. A shielding member is interposed between the first and second substrates, and prevents the sealing from being exposed to the internal space. A sealing member is disposed between the edges of the first and second substrates, and defines the internal space. Partition walls define the internal space into a plurality of discharge spaces. The shielding member includes a first shielding member interposed between a lower surface of the sealing member and the first substrate, and a second shielding member interposed between an upper surface of the sealing member and the second substrate.
