An index and a file having the same are provided to move the index in a file body, to attach or detach the index to/from the file body, and to let a user regulate the protruded length of the index. The file is composed of a file body(20) having a movable connecting part(23) and an index(30) comprising a cover part(31) and a wing(32) combined with the cover part and movably joined with the movable connecting part to protrude the cover part to the edge outside of the file body. The movable connecting part comprises a pair of cut parts(23a,23b) inserted by the wing and formed at the file body. The movable connecting part is a guide unit or a pocket unit fitted by the wing and installed at the file body.
