PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple direction input device in which a position regulation is certainly possible by a moving end position even if the operation amount of an operation element becomes short. SOLUTION: The multiple direction input device includes an operation element 2 rockably operable in a first direction and a second direction approximately perpendicular with each other, a guide member 16 in which an aperture 18 is opened to which an engagement protrusion 11 provided in this operation element 2 can be inserted, and four photo interrupters 22 serving as detection means for detecting the movement in the first direction and the second direction of the operation element 2. The engagement protrusion 11 has four outer walls extending in the first and second directions on both sides of a protrusion part (guided part) 11b in the center. The aperture 18 has four internal wall surfaces to which the aperture 18 extends in the first direction and second direction on both sides of a notch (guide part) 18a in the center, and it is constituted so that the engagement protrusion 11 might be guided in the first and second directions by the recess-protrusion engagement of one set of the protrusion part 11b and the notch 18a.
