PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for recovering ejection defects which is equipped with a full capacity of recovery without hindering cost reduction of an ink jet recorder, and to provide a method for recovering ejection defects. SOLUTION: A cartridge for ejection defect recovery 41 consists of a bag 42 which stores a recovery liquid, a pressuring member 43 which crushes the bag 42 to press and discharge the recovery liquid in the bag 42, and a case 44 which stores these bag and pressuring member. A shape and a size of the case 44 are made nearly equal to a shape and a size of an ink cartridge attached detachably to the ink jet recorder. The cartridge for ejection defect recovery 41 is fitted detachably to a cartridge mounting part where the ink cartridge is mounted. When the pressuring member 43 is manually pressed, the bag 42 is crushed and the recovery liquid inside is sent into a nozzle of a recording head through an ink feeding needle 36 connected to a discharge part 46.
