PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of designing a rough gear capable of increasing the life of a sizing mold by suppressing the lowering of the accuracy of a positive tooth profile. SOLUTION: A temporary tooth profile is formed by moving the positive tooth profile as the tooth profile of a desired gear by a predetermined amount to the outer diameter side of the gear. The tooth bottom side of the temporary tooth profile is joined to the tooth bottom of the positive tooth profile. The tooth depth of an intermediate tooth profile to which the tooth bottom is joined is set to such a shape that the addendum side of the intermediate tooth profile is cut off so that the tooth depth is equal to the tooth depth of the positive tooth profile.
