<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material which has high sensitivity/whiteness and excellent image recording shelf stability. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal recording material has a recording layer, using a colorless or pale-color electron-donative dye precursor and an electron-receptive compound which makes the dye precursor develop a color through a chemical reaction by heat, formed on a support. For the electron-receptive compound of the recording layer, a 4-hydroxy-4'-isopropoxydiphenylsulfone is used. In addition, a styrene maleic anhydride copolymer ammonium salt is used as a dispersant during wet-crushing the material.
