PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a crystal of (3S, 4R)-trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl piperidine (+)-2'-chlorotartranyl acid monohydrate through optical resolution of (3SR, 4RS)-trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl piperidine using (+)-2'-chlorotartranyl acid, provided that if the crystal contains an optical isomer, the crystal is purified through a simple operation in a high yield without using large amounts of solvents. SOLUTION: The (3S, 4R)-trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl piperidine (+)-2'-chlorotartranyl acid monohydrate containing the optical isomer is purified by using 2-3 mL acetone against 1 g (3S, 4R)-trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl piperidine (+)-2'-chlorotartranyl acid monohydrate, suspending it at 48-56°C and filtering it.
