PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing display elements which is capable of removing an organic layer on auxiliary wirings with high positional accuracy as well as suppressing the occurrence of scattering which cause leaks etc. in removing the organic layer. SOLUTION: In this invention, an organic EL element 1 comprises: a lower electrode 3 which is pattern-formed in each of pixels on a transparent substrate 2; auxiliary wirings 7 which are formed in between adjacent pixels on the transparent substrate 2; an organic layer 4 formed on the lower electrode 3; an upper common electrode 5 which is formed on the organic layer 4 so as to cover whole pixels; and a light absorption layer 7a which is formed in between the auxiliary wirings 7 and the transparent substrate 2.
