PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal capable of providing effective flushing function and cooling a relative rotation slide-contact part of sealing rings over its whole periphery uniformly and sufficiently. SOLUTION: In this mechanical seal M1, the relative rotation slide-contact parts 4a, 6a of the rotary sealing ring 4 and the static sealing ring 6 are positioned in a shaft sealing part 1 of a rotary equipment housing, and a flushing passage 9 is formed in a seal case 2 attached to the shaft sealing part 1. The flushing passage 9 is composed of a flush fluid chamber 9A being an annular space along an inner peripheral face 2a of the seal case 2, a flush fluid supply passage 9B for supplying flush fluid 91 into the flush fluid chamber 9A, and a flush fluid injection port 9C being an annular slit being concentric with the sealing rings 4, 6, communicating with the flush fluid chamber 9A, and opened toward the relative rotation slide-contact parts 4a, 6a.
