PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable and reliable ion current detection device not reducing output performance of a spark plug. SOLUTION: The ion current detection device for the internal combustion engine is provided with a primary coil having primary current controlled on and off by electronic control, a secondary coil electromagnetically connected to the primary coil and supplying high voltage to the spark plug, and detection circuit detecting ion current generated in a combustion chamber by combustion action based on ignition action by the spark plug. A means suppressing high voltage generated by the secondary coil at a time of turning on a switching element by a control circuit of the switching element shutting off primary current.
