<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rapid inspection method for determining the effectiveness of a sterilization process of medical instruments. <P>SOLUTION: The effectiveness of oxidative sterilization process is determined by exposing a substrate containing a primary amine or aldehyde indicator chemical to an oxidative germicide. The oxidative germicide racts with the indicator chemical. The amount of an indicator chemical remaining after exposure is determined by reacting the indicator chemical with a dye precursor chemical to form a colored product. The amount of an indicator chemical remaining on the substrate is determined from the intensity of color of the colored product. The amount of the remaining indicator chemical is a measure for the effectiveness of germicidal treatment. The dye precursor is an aldehyde when the indicator chemical is a primary amine, and it is primary amine when it is an aldehyde. An integrator for determining the effectiveness of the germicidal treatment includes the substrate and the indicator chemical, wherein the indicator chemical is a primary amine or an aldehyde. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
