PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of performing suitable zoom control using an optical zoom function and an electronic zoom function. SOLUTION: The projection type display device includes a projection optical system (11) for projecting an image on a surface to be projected, a first zoom means for performing first zoom operation of the projected image by changing a focal distance of the projection optical system (11), a second zoom means for performing second zoom operation of the projected image by applying image processing to the image, and a control means (6) for controlling the first and second zoom operations. In accordance with an output signal from an operating means to be operated for carrying out the zoom operation, the control means (6) then performs zoom control by cooperating the first zoom operation and the second zoom operation.
