PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce uneven erasing of an image and increase the number of times when a recording medium can be repeatedly used, in an image erasing device for erasing the image from a hard copy formed on the recording medium by using an image forming material. SOLUTION: This image erasing device 1 comprises a scratch mechanism 3 for scratching the image by using a scratch belt, and an image erasing part 5 for erasing the color of an image material by heating paper from which the image (image material) is removed by the scratch mechanism. A plurality of guide members are provided around a carrying drum of the scratch mechanism, so that the paper to be wound around the carrying drum can be brought into close contact with the surface of the drum.
