PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively and accurately detecting the breakage of a cooling equipment for a blast furnace body in a simple and easy manner. SOLUTION: The method is provided for detecting the presence/absence of the breakage of a stave for cooling the furnace body side wall in the blast furnace, a cooling plate or tuyere cooling equipment from quantity of gas bubble in cooling water effluent, and the method is characterized in that in the case of detecting the above breakage, a transparent tapered tube is fitted to the exhausting port in the cooling equipment, the transparent tapered tube having the inner diameter at the upstream side set to not smaller than the outer diameter of an exhausting port, and having the inner diameter at the downstream side set to smaller than the inner diameter of the exhausting port, and that the presence/absence of the breakage is judged according to the quantity of the gas bubble in the cooling water flowing in the transparent tapered tube.
