PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly drive recording elements of different kinds provided in a recording head without increasing the number of signal lines with a mainframe, complicating the structure of a circuit and lowering a recording speed. SOLUTION: The recording device has two types of recording elements, each consisting of a plurality of the recording elements, different in electric power to be applied for obtaining a desired recording characteristic. A signal ENB specifying two drive times in time sharing corresponding to the two types of the recording elements is applied to the two types of the recording elements. Power is applied to the first recording elements according to the first drive time, and power is applied to the second recording elements according to the second drive time.
