An endoscope having an insert whose front end surface is provided with an inclined section, characterized in that the endoscope comprises a lighting section (33x) disposed in the inclined section for lighting the body cavity, an observation window (32a) disposed in the front end surface (21) for observation of the body cavity, a gas-feed/water-feed nozzle (25) disposed on the front end surface (21) for feeding gas and water to the observation window (32a) and lighting section (33x), the front end surface (21) being formed with a first contact front end (25A) disposed in the gas-feed/water-feed nozzle (25) for contact with a plane, and a second contact front end (31A) disposed in other than at least either an object lens (32a) or the lighting lens (33x).
