The device has a linear actuator (4) fixedly supported in a cylinder head, and a valve lever (12) transforming a total stroke of a plunger (6) of the actuator in contrast into a large total stroke of a charge cycle valve (2). The linear actuator has an electrically controllable stepping motor unit (5a) that displaces the plunger successively around a discrete single stroke (24), where the total stroke of the plunger is variably adjustable by summation of the number of discrete single strokes.
