A textile fabric or felt consists of fibres of a polymer containing at least 90 moles per cent of monoethylenically unsaturated copolymerisable monomer, cross-linked by up to 0,1 moles per cent, preferably from 0,01 to 0,06 moles per cent, of a cross-linking agent, the moles per cent referring to the total number of structural monomeric units of the polymer. Specified monomers are vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, acrylamide, methacrylonitrile, methacrylamide and esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid. The cross-linking agents may be a polyethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. divinyl benzene, methylenebisacrylamide, diallyl phthalate or maleate, ethylene acrylate or diacrylate, triacrylohexahydrotriazine, or a polyvalent metal compound, e.g. aluminium sulphate. The crosslinking by a polyvalent metal compound may also follow a monomer cross-linking, or such second cross-linking may be by an acid treatment. The felt may be used as paper maker's felt.
