New variants of lymphadenopathy associated virus (LAV) - used for prodn. of DNA, antigens and antibodies used in diagnosis of AIDS and pre-AIDS

The viruses LAV(ELT) and LAV(MAL) whose RNA correspond to specified (C)DNA(S) (C)DNA(S) are new. Also claimed are the and peptides, protein or parts encoded by open reading frames of the DNA sequences. The different AIDS virus isolates concerned are designated by 3 letters of the patient's name. Recovery and purification of each of the 2 viruses were performed according to the method of EP 138,667. Mapping and sequencing of the DNA was carried out as in EP 85/00548.
