A plasma display panel is provided to emit visible rays from discharge cells through a first and a second substrate by improving a structure thereof. A first and a second substrate(201,202) are separated from each other. A plurality of barrier ribs(205) are arranged between the first and the second substrate in order to define discharge cells(Ce). A plurality of first and second electrodes(206,207) are arranged within the barrier ribs. A plurality of address electrodes(208) are arranged within the barrier ribs in order to cross extensions of the first and the second electrode. Phosphor layers(210) are arranged within the discharge cells. The discharge cells are filled with discharge gas. A unit frame is divided into a plurality of sub-fields having gray scale weighted values. Each of the sub-fields includes a reset period for resetting the discharge cells, an address period for selecting the discharge cells, and a sustain period for performing sustained discharge. During the sustain period, sustained pulses having a first voltage and a ground voltage are applied to the first and the second electrode and a second voltage having positive polarity is applied to the address electrodes.
