A side air bag module is provided to improve the reliability by protecting a passenger with a cushion in an optimal state after the expansion of an air bag. A side air bag module includes an air bag cover(50), a cushion(52), an inflator(54), and an air bag supporting unit(60). The air bag cover is provided in a seat. The cushion is provided in the air bag cover so as to be expanded between a passenger and a body of a vehicle if the internal pressure increases. The cushion has a thicker portion when the cushion is expanded. The inflator increases the internal pressure of the cushion and expands the cushion in the case of a collision. The air bag supporting unit locates the thicker portion of the cushion on the front side of the passenger and then locates it beside the passenger when the cushion is expanded.
