PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a control method and program for computers capable of generating a device link profile whereby the color reproducibility and the image quality of an output image when the image processing apparatus simulates an another image processing apparatus. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a profile generating means for relative color conversion applies a first color reproduction characteristic 20 obtained by applying colorimetry to an output image of prescribed image data by a simulation object apparatus on the basis of a second color reproduction characteristic 24 obtained by applying colorimetry to an output of the prescribed image data by the image processing apparatus to generate a relative color conversion profile 26; a composite color conversion profile generating means composes the first color reproduction characteristic 20 with the relative color conversion profile generated by the relative color conversion profile generating means to produce a composite color conversion profile 28; and a means for generating the device link profile 30 on the basis of the composite color conversion profile 28 produced by the composite color conversion profile generating means and the second color reproduction characteristic 24.
