PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slot machine that returns game balls once taken in to an upper ball retaining plate when a bet number is canceled. SOLUTION: The game balls in the upper ball retaining plate 15 are transferred from a taken-in position A to an upward transfer position B to retain them in a taken-in balls retaining pathway 52 in accordance with the operation of bet switches 42a, 42b and when a cancel switch 46 is operated thereafter a ball discharge controlling device is activated to generate a second discharging state to discharge the balls inside the taken-in balls retaining pathway 52 into a returning pathway 54 and returned to the upper ball retaining plate 15 and when a start switch 41 is operated the ball discharge controlling device is activated to generate a first discharging state to discharge the game balls into a discharging pathway 53. Thus when the cancel switch 46 is operated, the game balls once taken in are returned to the upper ball retaining plate 15 and the number of balls inside the upper ball retaining plate 15 does not change from that before the bet switches 42a, 42b are operated.
