A mixture gas state estimating device of an internal combustion engine in which a fuel injection period TAU is sectioned equally into first, middle and last periods, a first fuel injection (mass Q(1)) corresponding to "first period" is performed at a stroke at a fuel injection start, a second fuel injection (mass Q(2)) corresponding to "middle period" is performed at a stroke upon elapsing 1/3TAU after the first fuel injection, and a third fuel injection (mass Q(3)) corresponding to "last period" is performed at a stroke upon elapsing 1/3TAU after the second fuel injection. First mixture gas based on the first fuel injection, second mixture gas based on the second fuel injection, and third mixture gas based on the third fuel injection are handled individually, and the percentage of excess air, the state (e.g. temperature) of mixture gas, and an emission amount in mixture gas are estimated for each mixture gas. |
