A stroking table or platen(6) of the station is moved along guide columns(3) between a base(4) and an upper part(5) for performing a process operation. A staged introduction of force for sealing process is achieved by a two part table with a spring arrangement(12) between the upper(9) and lower(10) parts. In the resting position of the table the springs maintain a gap(13) between both parts. The spring arrangement(12) comprises compression springs(11). A tag(14) mounted on either the upper(9) or lower(10) part of the table acts in conjunction with a sensor(15) on the opposing table part to monitor changes in tag position and hence the gap change between table parts. The flag position can be altered relative to the supporting tool part. Vertical movement of the stroking table(6) is produced by a drive shaft., in particular an eccentric drive shaft(7), linked to a connecting rod(8) carrying the table. The drive shaft is powered by a motor with a control unit. The sensor(15) is connected by data cables(16) to the motor control unit for analysing sensor data relating to operation of the drive motor.
