<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable visually confirming a communication state of a plastic optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: Visible light as an optical signal to be transmitted is made incident from an end face of the plastic optical fiber. A clad 22 has a scattering structure which scatters the visible light and emits it from the peripheral surface outside the plastic optical fiber. This scattering structure is a structure differing in density depending on positions in the clad 22. This structure is formed by partially changing, or the like, the crystal structure of a polymer. Thus, the core 21 transmits most of the visible light, and a part of the visible light is scattered in the clad 22 and is made to exit outside from the peripheral surface of the plastic optical fiber 11. Therefore, it is possible to visually check the 2nd wavelength light, and it can be judged whether or not communication is underway, and whether or not the plastic optical fiber 11 is disconnected on the way, and a disconnected point can be judged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
