PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of updating map data of also an area other than the periphery of a recommended route, in a navigation device capable of partially updating the map data. SOLUTION: When fuel residual quantity of own vehicle becomes lower than a prescribed value, a circular runnable range 41 is set on a map, by using as a radius a distance range corresponding to a fuel residual quantity value of own vehicle at that time, centered at the present position of own vehicle, based on the fuel residual quantity at that time. Each of meshes M1-M6, M8 including the runnable range 41 is set as a region for object of updating. Then, updated map data relative to each of the meshes M1-M6, M8 are downloaded from an updated map data delivery center to the navigation device, to thereby partially update the map data recorded in an HDD.
