PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relatively low-cost hologram information recording/reproducing device having a high data transfer speed and capable of recording/reproducing a large volume of data. SOLUTION: A time control unit 7 controls the emission timing of a light source 1 so as to set predetermined recording time. A light emitted from the light source 1 is subjected to data modulation at a space photomodulator 25. Data to be recorded is multivalued by a multivalue processing section 7, and data is modulated by using data among the multivalued data. A signal light X and a reference light Y are combined in a recording medium 3 to record data. Multivalue data are decided based on the information of the diffraction intensity of a reproducing light Z obtained by applying a reference light.
