PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an inexpensive copper material whose softening temperature is low, and to provide the copper material. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a copper material, the copper material is directly produced from copper molten metal using a continuous casting-rolling device. At least one kind of metal selected from Ti, Zr, V, Ta, Fe, Ca, Mg and Ni or an alloy thereof is added to copper molten metal stored in a molten metal storage means in the continuous casting-rolling device, so as to control the ratio of the metal(s) contained in the molten metal to 0.0007 to 0.05wt.%, a rough drawing material is produced using the copper molten metal, the rough drawing material is subjected to cold wire drawing at the reduction of area of≥30%, and the cold wire-drawn material is subjected to heat treatment at 100 to 600°C for≥1 hr.
