PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve cost effectiveness and a simplified operation for substrate replacement by retaining user-inherent information without replacing a nonvolatile memory even in replacing printer control substrates in the event of its failure. SOLUTION: A printer controller which controls a printer is loaded with a nonvolatile memory 106 on which function-set-up conditions relative to the printer and information inherent to the device are written.
