<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming an image free from deviation between toner images without having correlation between the peripheral length of a photoreceptor and the peripheral length of an intermediate transfer body and having the high degree of freedom in design. <P>SOLUTION: The mean value of circulating time shown by a dotted line Tave, the amplitude of the fluctuation of the circulating time shown by an arrow 5A and the phase of a PR 12 when measuring the circulating time shown by white circles T1, T2 and T3 are calculated from the circulating time shown by the white circles T1, T2 and T3 in (A), and the profile of the circulating time shown by a sine wave 5T is formed. The phase of the PR 12 shown by an arrow P0 is the phase when the circulating time is Tave. The fluctuation of the linear velocity of the PR 12 with respect to time fluctuation is shown in (B). The linear velocity of the PR 12 is fluctuated in a sine wave shape, and the cycle thereof is equal to TPR.
