<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which has compact and simple constitution and nonetheless prevents the rear surface of a recording material from being contaminated with offset toner, and an image forming apparatus using the fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device 6 is provided with: a heat fixing member 1 whose surface is heated by a heat source and which is rotated to be driven; a pressure fixing member 2 which is arranged in press-contact with the heat fixing member 1 and nip-transports a recording material 8 between the pressure fixing member 2 and the heat fixing member 1; and a cleaning mechanism 3 which includes a windable cleaning web 7 which comes into direct or indirect contact with the heat fixing member 1. Further, the fixing device 6 is provided with: a contact-separation mechanism 4 which supports the heat fixing member 1 and the pressure fixing member 2 so as to bring them into contact with or separate them from each other; and a drive control means 5 with which both fixing members are arranged to be separated from each other when the rotation of the heat fixing member 1 is stopped and to be brought into contact with each other in such a state that the heat fixing member 1 is rotated as it is, after the heat fixing member 1 runs idle a plurality of times in such a state that both fixing members are arranged to be separated from each other, when the heat fixing member 1 is rotated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
