MOTION VECTOR DETECTING METHOD, FRAME INTERPOLATION IMAGE CREATING METHOD AND APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable accurate motion vector detection suitable for creating an interpolation image.

SOLUTION: The method for detecting a motion vector between an m-th frame ((m) is an arbitrary integer) and an (m+n)th frame ((n) is an integer of≥1) of an image includes: extracting a plurality of first blocks of a predetermined size and a predetermined shape from the m-th frame (S101); extracting a plurality of second blocks of the same size and the same shape as the first blocks from the (m+n)th frame (S102); determining a differential absolute value for each of images corresponding to each other between the first blocks and the second blocks (S103); counting the number of pixels with the differential absolute value equal to or less than a threshold, to determine a count value (S104); extracting a pair of blocks each including a pixel of the maximum count value from the first blocks and the second blocks and selecting a vector between such block pairs as a motion vector between the m-th frame and the (m+n)th frame (S105).
