PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a serial interface which can attain the high speed transfer of a signal while making it possible to input/output a signal by the absolute minimum number of terminals. SOLUTION: In a device 1, an output buffer 12 as well as an input buffer 11 are installed in a signal input terminal (SI), and an input buffer 13 as well as an output buffer 14 are installed in a signal output terminal (SO). The active statuses of buffers 11 to 14 are switched according to a control code OPC to be inputted from the signal input terminal (SI).
