PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily and inexpensively manufacturable ignitor for a pyrotechnic protecting device, particularly, an air bag or a seat belt tensioner. SOLUTION: The ignitor comprises a base having a deformed metal carrier part with an electrically igniting current lead wire, and a cap connected to the base. Propellant is sealed between the base and the cap. The metal carrier part of the base has a base body and a welding rim thinner than the base body.
