PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive construction method of a purification wall in which part of a water permeating layer such as sand and grit where contaminated groundwater passes is surely substituted with a purification material to form a purification wall of a given thickness, and the purification material is reacted with contaminants while contaminated water passes through the purification wall to purify the contaminants below a given concentration, and an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: This construction method of the purification wall intoxicates an organic chloride-based compound by constructing the purification wall in a flow passage of contaminated groundwater, and bringing the contaminated groundwater into contact with the purification material while the groundwater passes through the purification wall. By using a multi-shaft screw auger having multiple screw auger shafts and a casing therefor, a gourd-like excavation pit is formed with a necessary depth in the downstream side of the contaminated groundwater, the purification material is filled in the gourd-like excavation pit with the casing left set as it is, and then the casing is drawn out.
