A punching machine comprises punch-holders 22 to 25 slidably mounted on a rod 29 secured to a frame 1 and supporting punches 38 the heads 37 of which contact a manually-operable shaft 10 having off-centre ends 10a, 10b mounted in bearings 8, 9 in vertical end frames 5, 6 on the frame 1, member 46 slidable along a slot 51 in a plate 3 secured to the frame 1. The plate 3 is provided with a scale 43, Fig. 1, for positioning the punch-holders and with scales 44, 45 for positioning the work. The punchholders, which are each provided with a hard metal seating 39, Fig. 3, are each held on the rod 29 by means of a spring-influenced pivotally mounted finger 31. The head 37 of each punch is notched to receive an abutment 42 secured to the punch-holder. A finger 15, Fig. 5, mounted on the end 10a of the shaft 10 and projecting into a cavity 16 in the end frame 6 controls the vertical descent of the shaft 10. The work-positioning member 46 is pivoted at 49, Fig. 5, to a member 48 slidable along a shaft 7 secured to the frame 1 and is secured in adjusted position by means of a screw-threaded rod 47.
