PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer and a computer network with a function of guaranteeing security, a method for guaranteeing security, and a program, which automatically check a security level of the other party without using a special apparatus, such as a master computer and a security management device, to maintain the security level to a certain level. SOLUTION: Each computer belonging to the network is provided with a mutual authentication security driver that checks a security level mutually with the other party of communication to communicate with each other. If one of the communicating parties uses an old virus definition file, the mutual authentication security driver reserves the communication, automatically updates the virus definition file, and then resumes the communication. The checking process of the security level and the update process necessary for raising the security level are performed transparently without users' concern. If the program is not installed in one of the communicating parties, communication with the other party is controlled to be prohibited from communicating through the Internet, and, for example, directly connecting thereto with use of a modem, a communication card, etc., is also prohibited.
