PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which restrains increase in error rate under a low-humidity environment and is excellent in electromagnetic conversion characteristics and traveling durability. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer, which contains at least a ferromagnetic powder and a bonding agent, on a base material. In this case, a ratio (b)/(a) is at least 0.3 and at most 1.0, wherein (a) is an abrasion width of an AlFeSil prism when a magnetic recording medium travels while contacting the AlFeSil prism at 23°C and at 50% RH, and (b) is an abrasion width of the AlFeSil prism when the magnetic recording medium travels under the same conditions as the above at 23°C and at 10% RH.
