PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image projection apparatus which is configured to obliquely project an image onto a screen 4 with the use of a wide angle projection optical system and two plane mirrors and which can avoid degradation in the quality of a projection image by cutting ghost light at a proper position. SOLUTION: The image projection apparatus includes the first plane mirror MF1 and the second plane mirror MF2 with which image light emitted from a projection optical system 2 is reflected in succession and guided to the screen. The first plane mirror MF1 is disposed closer to the projection optical system 2 than the screen 4. The projection optical system 2 has a mirror M4 that has a curved reflecting mirror at a position closest to the first plane mirror MF on the optical path of the system 2. Light shielding plates 5 and 6 for shielding light unnecessary for image projection are disposed in an area between the mirror M4 and the second plane mirror MF 2 and an area between the first plane mirror MF1 and the screen 4 respectively. Of image light emitted from the curved reflecting face of the mirror M4, light deviating from an optical path for guiding the light to the first plane mirror MF1 and directly entering the screen 4 is cut.
