PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for measuring thickness of a sheet on a straight line intersecting with the traveling direction of the sheet at right angles in a thickness measuring apparatus for sequentially measuring the thickness of sheets along the width direction of the sheets. SOLUTION: The sheet thickness measuring apparatus 10 is provided with: an X-ray source 1 for generating X-rays to be irradiated to a sheet S traveling at a prescribed speed; a plurality of X-ray detection elements arranged along the width direction of the sheet S for detecting the amount of X-rays transmitted through the sheet S; and a control part 6 for sequentially measuring the thickness of the sheet S on the basis of the amount of X-rays detected by the plurality of X-ray detection elements and on the plurality of X-ray detection elements. The plurality of X-ray detection elements are arranged on a line tilted at a prescribed angle to the vertical direction to the traveling direction of the sheet S, according to the whole measuring time concerning a prescribed velocity and the plurality of X-ray detection elements.
