PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous annealing furnace equipped with alternate regeneration burners in which the intrusion of the outside air from an inlet to the inside of the furnace can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The continuous annealing furnace is constituted by forming the inlet 11 and an outlet 12 in the furnace 1, and installing a conveyor 3 for conveying a material 2 to be annealed from the inlet 11 to the inside of the furnace 1 and conveying the material from the outlet 12 to the outside of the furnace 1 to the furnace. The furnace 1 is internally equipped with the alternate regeneration burners 4 which comprise the paired burner 4a and 4b and perform evacuation with the other burner 4b (or 4a) during combustion with one burner 4a (or 4b). In the furnace 1, the vertical length h<SB>2</SB>of the inlet 11 is formed to be nearly the same height as the height h<SB>1</SB>of the material 2 to be annealed or a little longer than that.
