PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste water containing an oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group by which an alkali agent is added to waste water containing an oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group and the waste water with the alkali agent added thereto is distilled, thus the oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group in the waste water can be easily concentrated and separated, and also the waste water can be treated advantageously from the viewpoint of energy. SOLUTION: The method for treating the waste water containing an oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group comprises the following first step and second step: the first step where the alkali agent is added to the waste water containing an oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group; and a second step where the waste water with the alkali agent added thereto in the first step is distilled, and the waste liquid on which the oxygen-containing compound having a carbonyl group is concentrated is separated.
