A banknote handling device comprising units (A-G) for receiving/dispensing banknotes, and a conveyance drum (1) having a circumferential length greater than the length of the banknote longest in length. Press rollers (3) are pressed against the outer circumferential surface of the drum on which a circumferential conveyance passage (4) for banknotes is formed, and an identification sensor (5) is provided the conveyance passage (4). Each unit (A-G) and the circumferential conveyance passage are connected by connection conveyance passages (6a-6g) for banknotes. A passage switching mechanism for switching banknote conveyance passages between the circumferential conveyance passage and each connection conveyance passage is provided. Rotational directions of a rotary drum (1a) are opposite to each other when a banknote is fed into reception units (B-D) and when it is fed into units (A, E-G) on the opposite side diametrically across the drum.
