PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biodegradable composite material which is excellent in mechanical properties and heat insulating properties and is environmentally friendly. SOLUTION: The biodegradable composite material comprises a coconut fiber and a biodegradable resin. The length of the coconut fiber is 6-20 mm, and the biodegradable resin is contained in an amount of 10-70 mass%. The composite material is excellent in mechanical properties and heat insulating properties and is useful as a material for auto-parts and a heat insulating material for buildings.
