摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materializing intake air quantity limitation while securing EGR quantity of necessary minimum limit at a time of engine stop in economic running control such as idling stop. SOLUTION: This invented control device for an engine is provided with an intake air control valve 23 provided in an intake air passage on an upstream side of an intake valve 16 and capable of completely closing intake air passage and opening and closing the intake air valve 16 with synchronizing with opening and closing of the intake air valve16, and a stop control means executing predetermined stop control for stopping an engine when predetermined stop conditions are established. This stop control includes control of the intake air control valve 23 to close the intake air control valve 23 before closing the intake valve 16 and produce vacuum in an intake air passage 35 between the intake air valve 16 and the intake air control valve 23 during valve closing period of both valves. EGR quantity of the minimum limit is secured by internal EGR with using vacuum and simultaneously intake air quantity is adjusted and limited by setting of valve opening period or the like of the intake air control valve.
