A headset with a microphone boom (19), which can be coiled or uncoiled to change its effective length, provides the convenience for mobile communication. The microphone boom (19) for a headset can be mechanically or electro-mechanically wound or unwound to conceal the unused part so that the headset becomes more compact for mobile communication. When required, the microphone can be extended to any required length thereby facilitating clear voice reception and transmission. Compared to the existing solution as hinged or rotated fixed length microphone boom/s, this solution makes the headset more compact and handy. Compared to the hands-free headsets used in the current mobile phone market, this solution offers superior voice reception quality.
