A method for controlling an image forming device is provided to enable a user to control all functions of the image forming device without using any specific driver or protocol by using the device connected to the image forming device. The image forming device checks whether a connection folder, a menu script file, and a connection pointer file are present in the device(10). If the connection folder, the menu script file, and the connection pointer file are present in the device, a menu representing the function of the image forming device is displayed to the device by using the menu script file(12). An operation request file is generated, and the operation request file requests execution of the specific function or setting of a specific parameter corresponding to the menu selected by the user(14). It is checked whether the operation request file is present in the device(16). If the operation request file is present, the function or the parameter according to the operation request file is executed or set(18).
