<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood vessel embolization material which makes in vivo disappearing time last for a few day and is excellent in the necrose effect of cancer. <P>SOLUTION: The blood vessel embolization material has at least one active ester group capable of react with an active hydrogen-containing group introduced in a polysaccharide side chain and comprises a crosslinkable polysaccharide derivative capable of forming a crosslinked product by a covalent bonding of the active ester group and the active hydrogen-containing group upon the contact with water under an alkaline condition, the active hydrogen-containing group is a hydroxy group within a polysaccharide molecule, and the polysaccharide derivative is self-crosslinkable.
